バギオ留学2週間目突入
あまり日にちの感覚がなかったのですがもう6月ですね。
日本もそろそろ梅雨ですかね。
今日はある授業でこんな言葉を教えてもらいました。
” No man is an island ”
直訳すると「誰も孤島ではない」といった感じになります。
これはイングランドの詩人のジョン・ダン（1572-1631）の言葉です。
この文には続きがあり、
” No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. ”
で一文となります。
人は誰も孤島ではなく、どんな人も大陸の一片であり、主要なものの一部であるといった意味です。
身近な言葉でいうと「持ちつ持たれつ」といった感じですかね。
とても綺麗な表現だなと思いました。
文学作品なども原文を読めるようになれれば、日本語では表現しきれない部分まで感じることができるのでそんなレベルまでなれればいいなと思います。
